Dear Therapist, I Regret Sharing That With You

I remember being so young, needing counseling, and seeking it—but being overcome by fears about taking that step into healing. My reasons? Lack of trust in another human being, and fear of betraying family or those close to me if I shared the secrets I held in my heart.
Everyone who was available to help me felt like part of a “system”—a covert setup seemingly designed to harm me further. While these thoughts were extreme, they reflect a small part of what a person who has experienced abuse may feel. Many clients experience similar fears and doubts before making their first appointment. Even if they do take that step, anxiety and fear about the session often overwhelm them.
Having experienced both irrational fear and sometimes justifiable dread, I understand that every client needs to be met with compassion. I will never pretend to know exactly what they went through, but by sharing glimpses of my own healing journey, I connect with them. I am no longer just a professional sitting across from them, but another human being who has worked through her own healing and offers hope for others.
Some of the most profound healing occurs with clients who have severe traumatic histories—physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. I have witnessed people transform their torment into testimony, and their secrets into public power, sharing what God has done through His mercy alongside a counselor committed to walking with them through every step.
For clients who prefer secular-only sessions, I still believe that where there is truth, there is freedom: "When you come to know the truth, it sets you free to live fully and without chains" (John 8:32, TPT). The Holy Spirit is present in every session I host, because He resides within. As the Bible says: “the Advocate (Counselor), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in [Jesus’] name, will teach [me] all things and will remind [me] of everything [He] [has] said to [me].” For clients who welcome a faith-based perspective, I can guide them into deeper healing as they hold onto their faith.
For clients who have endured severe physical trauma, I incorporate what I call a healing and deliverance prayer, inviting the LORD to heal the soul (mind, will, emotions, intellect), body, and spirit. This is always offered with the client’s consent and in addition to standard clinical practices, never replacing them.
Prayer for Healing from Abuse
Lord, I acknowledge that You are my Creator and Lord of heaven and earth. I recognize and agree with the Bible that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. I invite Your presence to heal the broken and torn portions of my soul, body, and spirit. I welcome You to speak truth into areas unknown to my consciousness, that I may heal from trauma and abuse. I release myself from the effects of darkness and its intentions, including those inflicted by others. I receive Your power to heal, set me free, deliver, and make me new. In Jesus’ Name.
Since 2009, I have had the privilege of walking clients—both faith-based and secular—through healing that allows them to live their best life. I offer sessions in English and fluent Spanish, currently available for evening and Saturday appointments. Sessions take place in Allen, Plano, or Frisco, Texas, and Telehealth.
I hold a Master’s in Professional Counseling (2017) and have provided pastoral counseling and guidance for over 16 years. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate (Texas License #99976) under the supervision of Paul Martinez, LPC-S (#67616).
