Make Tongues a Lifestyle

He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, (1 Corinthians 14:4)

One of the things I often write on my bathroom mirror is, “Make tongues a lifestyle.” I love praying in tongues. Not just on Sunday mornings but every day, throughout the day. Some days I pray more than others, but my goal is that it is a lifestyle. Why? So that my soul (mind, will, emotions) is edified, meaning; built up, repaired where it is broken, and emboldened as the Bible says will occur when we pray in the Spirit. I also strive to stay stirred up and ready to minister at any time.

If Ephesians 6:18 tells us to pray in the Spirit at all times, how can you start a habit of praying in tongues daily? Write a reminder on your mirror with a dry erase marker, set a daily repeating calendar event, or you could even go on a 21-day life change challenge.

What if you struggle with praying in tongues and can only say one or two syllables over and over again? Repeat those until your prayer language expands. If that means you say the same thing every day for a month, then so be it. Don’t forget tongues are the language of God and the angels. The Lord made your mouth and He is not offended at your attempts. Keep asking Him to grow your trust in allowing the Spirit of God to pray through you and watch many areas of your life begin to change!
